Top actress Song Hye Kyo stars in Immortal Love (previously named Tae Pyeong Ryun 1949) which will be directed by high-profile Chinese movie director, John Woo.
On December 19 (local time) Terence Chang, the producer of Immortal Love, said, “Song Hye Kyo signed a contract with director John Woo last week.” Immortal Love has been prepared by director Woo and producer Chang for over two years. It’s a melodramatic epic film which talks about love and pain during the modern period of turbulent China in 1930s.
Previously at the Cannes International Film Festival, Song and Woo held a press conference about the movie production. However, circumstances have hindered the production and it seemed the movie was never going to be made. Then again, there was given another try for the movie and it finally bore its fruit.
Song starred in The Grandmasters by director Wong Karwai and now continues to work with world-renowned Chinese movie directors such as John woo through the film Immortal Love.
In Immortal Love, Song plays the character Joo On who was born in a family of a financier in Shanghai. Joo On is a strong woman who grows up with the pain of her time. Song is to portray a character changing her personality from being modern, free-spirited to mature and wise.
Throughout the film, Song talks only in Chinese. Terence Chang said, “Director Woo had been trying to cast her enthusiastically. He found Song’s innocent and stylish charisma very attractive. As soon as he came up with the idea of the film, Woo had been asking Song to play for over two years.”
With Terence Chang, Song is planning on speeding up her work in global market. Chang has been in charge of managing Song’s work in Asian as well as other markets in the world since 2008 after signing a contract. Chang is planning another project for Song after Immortal Love.
The shooting for Immortal Love will begin at the beginning of next month in Shanghai and Taiwan.
