Kim Hyun Joong recenlty made a donation, touched by his fans’ warm hearts.
On August 6, the Beautiful Foundation, a non-profit public utility foundation, reported Kim’s fan club, Kim Hyun Joong Powerful S·My Club, donated ten million won to a campaign for senior citizens who live alone on August 1. After hearing the news, Kim also donated fifty million won to the foundation on August 3.
A spokesperson for the Beautiful Foundation says, “Kim came back to Korea on August 2 after finishing his fan meeting tour of Asia. He heard the news that his fan club made a donation to help needy people and decided to donate fifty million won, touched by his fan club members who participated in the good work. He made the donation to the Beautiful Foundation on August 3.”
Kim Mi Kyung, the executive director of the Beautiful Foundation, says, “There were many fan clubs who joined their celebrities’ good work, but it’s unusual for a celebrity to respond to his or her fan club’s donation. It proves that Korea’s fandom culture has become very mature along with the culture of donation.”
Thirty million won out of the fifty million donated by Kim will be used for senior citizens who live alone and the rest twenty million won will be used as college students’ scholarship funds.
The 246 members of Kim’s fan club, Kim Hyun Joong Powerful S·My Club, have donated a total of 0.13 billion won for three years to Kim Hyun Joong Scholarship Fund, founded by the Beautiful Foundation on February 17, 2010.
