The story really caught me. I have been wanting to watch episode 3 for past two days but there were no Eng subs yet. I don't want to re-watch so waited and now only got the time to see episode 3.
Five Fingers as I said started really good. As a viewer, you want more. Just to answer some questions. Was I correct in thinking that the wife's character, Young Rang, is so good to be true? She almost fooled me! With her innocent and fragile looks, anyone can be deceived, except her mother in law and her husband. Yes, despite appearances, she could not fool these two. She may pretend to accept Ji Ho and perhaps even feel some kind of sympathy towards this boy, but the fact that he will always be the reason of her son's [In Ha] insecurities and jealousies her true character can not be disguised. Just like when the competition was held, In Ha showed his talent and technique that has yet to be surpassed by anyone, but Ji Ho's sensitivity in playing the piano caught the audience's hearts. It's technique versus heart. What will it be?
As Man Se [father] said, In Ha acted trying to get the audiences's pity by playing with a bandaged/cast hand. This is something that can not be looked over by Man Se. The deviousness was there, even at his young age.
To continue my thoughts on episode 3...
I am really curious of Young Rang's past. What's the story behind the piano? Was the engraved letter JW someone she treasured most? What's the connection of that man to In Ha? These are only some that made me so curious and anxious to finish this drama. Man Se knew her secrets but for some reasons use his knowledge to hurt her more. Should I pity her? Should I say that her actions were born out of all things that happened in her life?
While In Ha and Ji Ho met with a piano teacher, [who is supposedly only a composer and not nearly as popular] In Ha's arrogance showed again. While Ji Ho on the other hand understand fully what the composer was trying to teach them. In the end Ji Ho was chosen but as usual, unpredictable, the recommendation letter for Ji Ho was changed to In Ha's name. This is how Ji Ho understands In Ha's struggles and feelings. As a hyung, he knows what to do. After all, he is not the greedy type. But fate once again interfered when Young Rang never even bothered to read the letter and just threw it inside the waste basket.
To her dismay, Man Se told this in her face, and her deceiving actions were totally in the open. It added to her fiery heart. Not to mention the piano being put away or given away by the mother in law. Her pains are being doubled. Her hurting heart clouding her dark mind.
I really love her character. It's exciting and not predictable.
What's a good drama without a love triangle? Sibling rivalry is not enough, they have to be both attracted to the same girl. A young girl named Hong Da Mi first met Ji Ho. Later she also met In Ha who immediately took an interest in her which was witnessed by Ji Ho and suppressing his feelings, decided to take a step back.
I like how the father, Man Se recognizes his faults as a father and In Ha's sadness. He told Ji Ho not to make In Ha sadder or he would never forgive him. A father that although very strict and showed ruthlessness is still capable of being fair in his own way.
The episode ended with the house on fire... with Man Se inside.
